YEAR 2008 - WU ZI - YEAR OF THE EARTH RAT

Period change from the 7 Metal Period (1984-2003) to the Number 8 Earth (2004-2023)
On February 4, 2004 we had entered the new Period ruled by the number 8 for the next 20 years. Practical and the most fortunate, the number 8 is an Earth number, its symbol the Mountain. Quiet, deliberate and firm, this Period will not allow for any confusion to last. Associated with youth, it will be the next generations turn: we are entering the time of youthful, serious and vibrant energies directed at getting things done with the least amount of fuss. Well-tested ideas, down-to-earth, no-nonsense negotiations and genuine relationships will have a better chance to endure. If we are direct and honest, work hard and stay focused, this Period 8 could be the best one yet!

PREDICTION FOR THE NEW YEAR: 2008 – THE YEAR OF THE EARTH RAT

This year the New Moon signals the beginning of the Lunar New Year starting on February 7th 2008 through February 25th 2009 - the Year of the Earth Rat.
In the USA: February 8th, 2008

. . .

The year of the Earth Rat is symbolized by the elements Yang Earth on top of Yin Water. Based on the cycle of birth and destruction - a symbolic system of the interrelationship between the 5 elements - Earth rules (dominates) Water. Thus Earth is controlling Water this year. However, Earth sitting on top of Water represents an unstable or more like an opposing relationship.
Water below Earth weakens the foundation of Yang Earth (symbolic of a mountain) causing imbalance or instability. We could conclude that the year 2008 – as it occurred 60 years ago, in 1948 - appears like a stable year but with some frustrations and sudden turn of events. This Rat moves fast, and we will be best to keep up with the pace!

As mentioned, the last Earth Rat year in 1948 was the year in which the Cold War between East and West started. As the Rat year always represents the first of a new 12 -year cycle, it will be a year of new beginnings to say the least!

Yang Earth represents Rocky Mountain, symbolic of strength and power. At the same time, the Rat belongs in the Water-ruled group and Water is the symbol of communication and diplomacy.
In 2008 we could expect better communication and diplomatic ‘deals’ created among the current ‘powers’ in our world. There could be new political systems replacing old ones, especially with Pluto entering it’s ‘new house’ of Capricorn in January 2008.

Leadership is changing on a wide scale in many countries, including the USA. In this new cycle we may also be faced with big changes in the world economy. The ‘flow’ of commerce, financial markets (yin Water) may find new owners (yang Earth). Thus a lot of great business deals –particularly Real Estate deals - mergers and new exciting market developments can be expected.

The opposition between Earth and Water will definitely affect the oceans and many waterways, especially in the Southern parts of the globe, or in the southern areas of a continent/ country. Aviation disasters may also increase due to the vulnerability of yin Water, ruling air travel. Arctic ice melting continues to be front-page news this year. Earthquakes, especially in the oceans, landslides due to flooding, hurricanes near island shores could significantly increase in 2008.

The Rat is an expert at Romance, fun and games or all sorts of entertainment. It carries the ‘Flower of Romance’ resulting in significant increases of weddings. New relationships and heightened social activities all could flourish this year. Like his friend, the Fire Boar, this Rat loves to have a good time with family and friends.

On the flip side, we must watch out for triangle-relationships and scandals, as some may fall ‘overboard’. Caution is especially advised for those born in the year, month or day of the Horse (those born in the year 1942, 1954 and 1966). The Horse is very vulnerable to complications in the Romance area in its opposite year of the Rat. It would be advisable for the Horse person to make decisions at a later time. There is also a minor negative aspect between the Rat and those with Rabbit in their charts, indicating irritations, frustrations or minor illness.

Yang Earth rules the digestive system and Water rules the kidneys and reproductive organs. Thus many needing to change their lifestyle and eating habits -should they take those steps – will be rewarded with better health in 2008. Those who are afflicted with Earth-related chronic conditions, such as diabetes, may want to improve or even change their conditions with the help of new alternative healing methods.

The economy remains unstable due to the balancing act between the powerful Yang Earth sitting on yin Water. The power struggles in Earth-ruled industries, such as Real Estate continues to be prevalent, driving the stock market along with it (Wood/Fire). We may see some optimism returning in the early spring months (Wood/Fire).
However the trend for serious change remains the only constant and in this New Year we may see the beginning of that change in the world financial and money markets. Speculation-based stocks will be replaced with long-term, ethically sound and earth friendly businesses.

Since Fire is absorbed into Earth, consumer spending will be more conservative. As Pluto enters the new house Capricorn, for the next 15 years, the tendency for excessive consumerism will go ‘out of fashion’. Excessive spending on luxurious items will be replaced by consuming earth-friendly, ‘green’ products as awareness grows about global warming.

Metal-ruled industries benefit from the Yang Earth influence, leading to improvements in most engineered products, taking into account the need for ‘green’, alternative energy-use products. Many early inventions will be utilized to produce alternative energy fueled vehicles, industrial products and high tech products.
Wood –based industries such as furniture, textiles, paper and publishing businesses will get a boost of better financing during the early part of this year as Wood benefits from strong Earth and Water.

The media-based industries, ruled by Water and Fire remain in trouble, which started in 2007. As the need for better information sources remains strong, the main media sources will be forced to reform, consolidate or continue to merge. Fire rules the energy-based businesses such as the oil, gas, electricity industries, as they will have to make long-awaited changes to catch up to the need for alternative sources. We will see the greatest reforms in these two giant areas in the next 12 years!

In general, the year 2008 will seem like a strong, stable year, as Yang years bring more optimism. However, the weak Water below keeps all of us cautious with trusting the current leadership, economy, especially the financial sector. It will be a great year to gain momentum for change, as symbolized by turbulence out in our oceans and waterways. The new 12-year cycle, starting in 2008 can be the time to start with the monumental change needed to build a more prosperous earth-friendly world we all have been waiting for.

The most compatible signs with the Rat-year are the Monkey, Dragon and the Ox. They benefit most from this year. It is a generalized statement, as we also must see the individual BaZi charts for better accuracy. For Rabbit and Rat in an individual chart caution is advised with travel-related accidents, minor illness or losses.

Those with Boar, Sheep and Rabbit-year charts the ‘Flower of Romance’ in the Rat year could bring happy social events, even possible romance and marriage. As mentioned, caution is advised for Horse-year born individuals, as the clash between the Fire-ruled Horse and Water-ruled Rat could indicate accidents, frustrations or sudden changes.
